Our knowledge about the musical life in Spain ca. 1300-1350 has substantially increased throughout the last few years. A number of fragmentary sources recently discovered in Burgos, Sigüenza, Sevilla, Tarragona and elsewhere, transmitting Mozarabic prayers, conducti and hockets, reveal a much richer panorama than that limited only to the Las Huelgas Codex. In this session, David Catalunya will present some of these new sources contextualizing them in the theoretical background of the Barcelona treatise on mensural music.
A new concordance of one of the examples given by anonymous St. Emmeram treatise of 1279, hitherto unidentified, will be also explored.
